My favourite Entrepreneurs

There are many people i look up to in the business world. I went on a trip to Australia, Asia, and New Zealand and made a point of reading a wide array of books. Many being autobiography's and biography's of entrepreneurs. These included Richard Branson, Ted Turner and Warren Buffet. These men took things they believed in and made them a success regardless of what anyone thought. Ted Turner created CNN without a business plan because he believed that there was enough news to fill the day and that people should not have to wait till 6 o'clock to get there news. Richard Branson started Virgin Airways at one of the worst times in history to start an airline. Absolutely everyone told him that it was a horrible idea. Now it is an incredibly successful international and domestic carrier. These men did not wait for money to come to them they went out and found it. They had passions and took those passions and made a living from them. That is my main goal, to take things i love and make a profit from them. An example of me doing this in a small way is this summer. I wanted to work outside and make my own schedule around my classes. The goal was to be busy during the day but have my nights and most of my weekends. My company Dalton Lawn Maintenance made it possible to make more money then i would at a part time job, staying fit, and working out doors.

My Business Goals

I am interested in continuing being an entrepreneur. I am a good worker but a bad employee. I like finding out the answer to problems on my own and i like dealing with people in business and in my personal life my way. My short term my goal is to finish business school at Sheridan(http://www1.sheridaninstitute.ca/). As well as next summer expand the lawn maintenance company i have started this year and turn it into a full time business. I plan on putting together an agressive oakville wide, marketing campaign. As well as apply for grants and loans from private and government programs(http://www.sbe.gov.on.ca/ontcan/sbe/en/youth_summerco_en.jsp). I do not plan on being in the outdoor service industry for my whole career. I would like to try my hand at a number of different industries. I like advertising because it is one of the few business you can be very creative with a number of different mediums. I also think that ads are poorly made and i feel there is room for a younger brand of humar and perspective in the advertising world. Finally i would like to produce feature films one day. All through high school i made movies and those were some of the best times of my life. Some of these films are still being shown in the com tech classes at my old highschool. It think the movie industry is exciting fast paced business that rewards creativity and vision.

My Employment History

I feel that beginning with my employment history is an appropriate starting point. My first job was a dish washer at the Oakville Golf Club. It taught me a number of different lessons. The first being the importance of timely work and a thick skin. There was constant yelling and the chief had no problems with publicly embarrassing his employees. That job only lasted the summer. My next job was much more suited to my personality. I worked for an ice sculpting company called iceculture inc.(http://www.iceculture.com/) My job included delivery, set up and miner sculpting on site. This job allowed me to travel all over North America, go to some of the most exclusive parties and taught me invaluable skills. These skills included working under extreme time constraints, working in unfamiliar environments, and the importance of keeping calm under pressure. Currently i have started a lawn maintenance company. I have only been in business for just over a month. I am experiencing growing pains. A lack of funding and faulty equipment. These things were expected but not as early they have arrived. The company luckily has very little day to day expenses. My gas money is the largest expense, although i am finding i am spending significantly more money on gas from driving from home to school and back.
